What is Crawl Space Encapsulation?

Encapsulation is a challenging word to pronounce and spell correctly on the first try. But do you know what it means when it comes to crawl spaces? Crawl space encapsulation is a four-step process that we, The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh, do to protect your home. The steps are as follows:

  1. Take care of water issues. This includes leaking plumbing, holes or cracks in the foundation, or even drainage problems. Our team installs a drain and sump pump around the perimeter of the crawl space. These products are specifically made for crawl space environments!

  2. Stop moisture. Our team covers the floor and walls with a CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier. The barrier is a reinforced polymer liner that does not rip or tear. You can still store belongings on it because the liner acts as a defense to moisture to keep the crawl space dry.

  3. Seal air leaks. Moisture can cause problems such as mold growth, and humid air is to blame. Leaks in the crawl space let moisture and pests inside. Our team will find where air leaks in, whether it’s a hole or vent, and seal it.

  4. Condition the crawl space. Our team can either install a dehumidifier or a ventilation fan depending on where the crawl space is located. This can help control the humidity and remove the moisture from the air.

There you have it, the encapsulation process. Do you think your crawl space might need to be fixed? The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh can help! Give us a call today to get started with a free estimate.
