Winter Effects on Foundations

When it comes to your foundation, have you thought about how winter might affect it? If not, The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh are here to inform you of what happens. Basement foundations are surrounded by soil and potentially backfill. Soil can weaken over the years and can lead to problems, such as water seepage or cracks. A foundation problem will never get better on its own and typically becomes costly the longer you wait to fix it.

During the winter, snow is constantly freezing and thawing. Melting snow seeps into loosened soil and makes its way towards the foundation. Combined with hypostatic pressure from the soil on the walls, cracks form and allow water inside the home. This cycle repeats itself until spring weather arrives, but do not wait that long! If you notice any current problems with your foundation, call The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh. Schedule a free estimate to have one of our representatives visit your home and discuss the right solution for you.
