Our Crawl Space Encapsulation Process

Crawl spaces actually play an important part in the health of your home. Almost half of the home’s air comes up from the crawl space and it controls the humidity and moisture levels. Problems such as mold, rotted floor joists, pest infections, and poor air quality need to be taken care of quickly.

The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh are your experts on crawl space encapsulation. Here are the 4 steps we take:

  1. Fix Water Intrusion. Our team of trained professionals will identify and take care of any water leakage, such as plumbing leaks, foundation leaks, or drain problems. A product we primarily use is a perimeter drain system and sump pump.

  2. Stop Moisture. In a crawl space, moisture can enter through the ground and foundation walls. Our team will install a vapor barrier, which covers the floor and walls. It is made of reinforced polymer liner with a warranty against any damage. The best part? It provides a clean space, which can turn it into a storage area.

  3. Seal Air Leaks. Rim joists will be sealed, as well as any holes or gaps causing air from the outside to enter. This includes areas around pipes and electrical wires.

  4. Condition Air. We can either install a dehumidifier or add a crawl space ventilation fan. Depending on the crawl space you have, the foreman will discuss the options with you and recommend one.

By following these 4 steps, The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh are able to secure and make sure your crawl space is clean and dry. We receive many customers saying they noticed small differences in their homes after the crawl space is encapsulated. If you are interested, give us a call today to set up a free estimate!
