Questions for Contractors

We understand that you want the best professionals to do the job. That is why it’s important to ask them the right questions before you schedule them. The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh have gathered 5 questions to ask contractors, and we’ve included our answers for reference.

Are estimates fixed?

Some contractors will give homeowners a fixed quote for the project or an estimate that is subject to change. The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh offer free estimates, but ours are not fixed. We will assess the problem and give homeowners a range, with high and low costs, and the final number will be calculated in between the high and low numbers once the homeowners sign us for the job.

We also know that unexpected changes may arise with your project. Any changes to the cost of the job won’t be allowed without discussing it with the homeowner first.

Are you licensed to work?

In some states, contractors are required to have the proper licenses to operate. Oftentimes, contractors will attend training programs and earn certifications too. The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh are licensed to work and have many employees who have passed training and certifications needed to work for us.

We have also earned and are recognized by the Basement Health Association. We are a 2x winner of the Angi’s List Super Service Award, a NAWSRC Star Award winner, and have an A+ rating from the BBB.

What is the timeline for the job?

Because each job is unique, the timeline will vary. It will also vary based on our team schedules too. Asking this question gives you a good idea of how long the team will be at the house. Larger projects will take longer to complete, and of course, you never know if any problems will arise.

The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh will do our best to give a guess as to how long the job will take. It’s not set in stone, it is a tentative timeline. We know that you want the job to be done right, and don’t want to rush.

How long have you been in business?

The longer a business is in the industry, the more experienced they are at doing the job right.  Did you know The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh have been operating since 2000? That’s right! We’ve grown into a trusted and effective basement finisher and waterproofer in the Pittsburgh area.

What is the primary way of communicating?

Sometimes contractors will communicate directly with the homeowner. Other times, the manager or assistant in the office will be your person of contact. Communication is super important for the job to run smoothly, and by asking this question, you get to find out how many people you are in touch with along the way.

For us, our field representatives will work with you on the estimate. After the job is signed, you will be passed to the head foreman for your project. This individual will be communicating with you on the status. You will also be in touch with office assistants that help order the products for your home.

By answering these questions, you get a better idea of who you are signing for the job. If the contractor has a hard time answering these questions, it may be a sign to go with a different company. The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh want you to have the best contractor for the job, so give us a call for a free estimate today!
