Winterize Your Home ASAP!

Is your home ready for winter? If not, The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh want to give you a few ways to winterize your home! We know that cold, snow, and freezing weather can cause problems if homes are not prepared properly. Here are 5 ways to winterize your home:

  1. Check Furnaces. Have a professional company inspect to make sure it’s functioning properly, and make sure to change the air filter as well. You don’t want an inefficient furnace to make your electric or gas bill high, or be stuck without heat.

  2. Clean Gutters. Clogs will not help when snow begins to melt from the roof. If you don’t have a guard to protect you from leaves and debris, they need to be cleaned.

  3. Seal Windows and Doors. If they are not sealed properly, they can let cool air in, and cause high heating bills. You can buy materials to do it at local stores or find a professional to do it.

  4. Reverse Any Ceiling Fans. By switching it clockwise, ceiling fans can push warm air back down into a room. This can also help heat rooms and help with allergies too.

  5. Check Chimneys. Wood burning fireplaces need to be cleaned every year. Creosote builds up over time which can cause deadly consequences such as toxic fumes or house fires.

The Basement Guys of Pittsburgh want you to be prepared as winter ramps up, and even though we cannot do all these winterizing ways, we do offer other services. If you have issues with water entering your basement, we can waterproof your home! We also offer foundation repair and basement finishing services as well.
